Marvel fans now have a glimpse into Marvel Studios' plans for Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror ahead of Avengers 5 (previously titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty).

After Jonathan Majors was found guilty of harassment and third-degree assault in December 2023, he was subsequently dismissed from his role as Kang in the MCU. This created a significant issue for Marvel, as Kang was intended to play a crucial role in Avengers 5 and possibly its sequel.

Rumors suggested that Marvel was considering a few different options — either recasting the role, reducing Kang's presence, or entirely switching to a different villain for the Multiverse Saga.

At Marvel Studios' official Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed the team's plans for the future of the Kang the Conqueror character.

In a surprising decision, Marvel Studios has retitled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty to Avengers: Doomsday, effectively severing the final link to Majors' character in the franchise.

The sequel is scheduled to hit theaters in May 2026 and will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo.

Furthermore, the film will include MCU legend Robert Downey Jr. in his second Marvel Studios role, portraying the villainous Dr. Victor Von Doom.
