HYDERABAD:

A professor of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, allegedly shot himself dead in his hostel room on Saturday.

Apparently, domestic issues seem to be the cause of alleged suicide of Prof Sufi Muhammad Saleh Memon, who taught in Business Administration Department, according to some faculty members of the varsity.

The university sources informed the police that they heard a gunshot after which they rushed to the hostel room where the teacher was lying in a pool of blood in critical condition.

The 46-year-old professor was shifted to the hospital where he died during the treatment.

The police have collected forensic evidence from the room besides recording initial statements of the faculty and Memon's family members.

The body was handed over to the family after the medico-legal proceedings.

"We have heard that he was passing through some pressing issues in his personal life," a senior faculty member told The Express Tribune.

According to him, Memon less than a year ago had married another woman while his first wife stayed at their residence with his children. "His second wife was staying with the teacher," he added.

The police said they have started a probe into the case and it will be too early to conclude what is likely the cause of professor's death.
