PCB Chief Naqvi lauds Pak women’s team

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi commended the Pakistani women's cricket team after their narrow defeat against Sri Lanka in the ACC Women’s Asia Cup 2024 semifinal.
Despite the heartbreaking loss, Naqvi took to the social media platform "X,' where he praised their fighting spirit.
“Absolutely proud of the Pakistan women’s cricket team,” Naqvi posted.
“You fought with heart and determination till the very last ball. Winning and losing are both part of the game, but what truly matters is the spirit and resilience you displayed.
“You have lived up to the nation’s expectations and made us all proud. Keep your heads high; you have our unwavering support. Best of luck for the future.”
The semifinal was a nail-biter, with Pakistan captain Nida Dar nearly defending three runs in the final over. However, Sri Lanka's Anushka Sanjeewani held her nerve, securing a three-wicket win for her team and a spot in the final against India.
Chasing 141, Sri Lanka overcame a rocky start, thanks to captain Athapaththu's 48-ball 63, which included 10 boundaries and a six. Despite her dismissal in the 17th over, Sanjeewani's unbeaten 24 off 22 balls ensured the victory.
For Pakistan, Sadia Iqbal was the standout bowler with four wickets, while Nida Dar and Omaima Sohail took two each. Earlier, Pakistan posted 140/4, led by openers Muneeba Ali (37 off 34) and Gull Feroza (25 off 24). Aliya Riaz and Fatima Sana added 40 runs in the last five overs to bolster the total.
Afghan duo confirm participation in CT 2025
Afghanistan cricket team members Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Mohammad Nabi have confirmed their willingness to play in Pakistan, firmly denying the baseless rumors of the Afghan team boycotting the event.
With the Champions Trophy 2025 set to be hosted in Pakistan, there were many speculations about the possibility of the Afghanistan team boycotting the tournament. However, the players have dismissed these rumors and confirmed the team's availability.
Both players, currently competing in the Global T20 in Canada, emphasized their eagerness to participate in matches hosted by Pakistan.
Mohammad Nabi urged fans to disregard the false reports circulating on social media, asserting that such rumors lack any substance. Rahmanullah Gurbaz echoed these sentiments, expressing his appreciation for the overwhelming support he received from Pakistani fans.
They also highlighted his positive experiences in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and his enthusiasm for playing in Pakistan again.
