Aslam recounts tragedies that changed him

Actor opened up about losing his first child and mother

Best known for his role in the beloved sitcom Bulbulay, veteran actor Mehmood Aslam appeared as a guest on the chat show Zabardast with Wasi Shah and revealed heartbreaking moments from his life that changed him forever.

“I was just 24 years old when my first child, a daughter, was born prematurely and passed away,” Aslam recounted, his voice heavy with emotion. “The hospital administration handed me my baby, wrapped in a white cloth, and I was at a complete loss, not knowing what to do. It felt as if I was utterly alone in the world.”

In those days, without the convenience of mobile phones, Aslam had to deliver the tragic news to his family via a landline. “This is an incident I can never forget because she was our first child, whom we lost,” he shared with tears in his eyes.

The actor also spoke about the deep grief he felt after the passing of his mother. He recalled, “My mother lived in a room on the ground floor while my room was upstairs. I was often consumed with work, and she would say to me, ‘I don’t know if I’ll be able to see you when I die.’”

Aslam vividly described his mother’s final moments: “One day, my mother’s condition worsened, and it was clear she was at her final stage. As soon as I entered her room, she raised her hand, and I hugged her tightly. That moment will forever be etched in my memory.”

Earlier, Aslam appeared on Adnan Faisal’s podcast and shared his profound disillusionment with the current state of Pakistan. Despite his deep-rooted love for his homeland, the actor expressed a bleak outlook on the nation’s trajectory.

Reflecting on his extensive career spanning over four decades, Aslam reminisced about a time when Pakistan evoked a sense of pride and respect. “I often think about the Pakistan of my childhood — it was in our hearts, we loved it very much. It was the kind of Pakistan you would be willing to sacrifice your life for. The kind of respect we had for the country, for each other — the difference between elders and the young. That respect has gradually come to an end,” he lamented.

The actor, who has earned acclaim for his serious roles as well as his comedic endeavours, underscored his unwavering commitment to Pakistan. “If I wanted to move out of the country, I could have but I didn’t. I said no. This is my country, my land where my roots are,” he said, highlighting his decision to remain in Pakistan despite opportunities to relocate abroad.
