Britney Spears criticized Halsey for allegedly depicting her as a “superficial pop star with no heart” in their new “Lucky” music video — but quickly retracted her statements.

Following the release of Halsey's music video, Spears went to X to threaten legal action.

“For obvious reasons I’m very upset about the Halsey video,” Spears, 42, wrote Friday evening. “I feel harassed, violated and bullied.”

“I didn’t know an artist like her and someone I looked up to and admired would illustrate me in such an ignorant way by tailoring me as a superficial pop star with no heart or concern at all,” she added.

Spears continued that she is currently dealing with “health problems,” which was why she deleted her Instagram. However, she plans to rejoin the platform to show she “care[s].”

“I’m speaking with my lawyers today to see what can be done on this matter,” she concluded. “It feels illegal and downright cruel.”

However, only minutes after posting the harsh message, she quickly removed it and said that someone else had written it.

“Fake news !!! That was not me on my phone !!!” she then shared on X. “I love Halsey and that’s why I deleted it 🌹 !!!”

Halsey swiftly responded on X, writing, “and I love Britney!!!!”

“I always have and always will 💕 you were the first person who ever made me realize what it means to feel inspired. And you continue to inspire me everyday.”

In the music video, Halsey, 29, portrays a pop star that resembles Spears, even donning a full-body crystal suit similar to Spears’ iconic “Toxic” outfit.

In the public eye, Halsey’s character is depicted as a successful singer whom little girls aspire to emulate.

However, behind the scenes, the character struggles with relationship issues and hidden health problems, mirroring the real-life challenges faced by the “Without You” singer.
