Royal Attendance Highlights at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

Princess Anne of the U.K., along with other royals represent their countries at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

As the Paris 2024 Olympic Games commence, the City of Lights is not only bustling with athletes and fans but also with notable royal figures from around the globe.

The opening ceremony, held on July 26, saw a significant presence of royalty, adding a touch of regality to the festivities. Among the distinguished attendees were several royals who have long been connected with the Olympics, either through personal participation or significant contributions.

Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco made a grand entrance on the red carpet ahead of the opening ceremony. Prince Albert, a former Olympian in bobsledding, and Princess Charlene, a former swimmer who competed in the Sydney 2000 Olympics, showcased their continued support for the Games.

Princess Anne of the U.K., a notable figure in Olympic history, was present at the 142nd International Olympic Committee (IOC) session on July 23. Princess Anne, who made history in 1976 as the first British royal to compete in the Olympics, attended in her role as an IOC member.

 

 

Queen Mary and King Frederik of Denmark were also prominent at the Paris Games. The couple, whose romance began at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Danish Pavilion on the Champs-Élysées and attended a gala dinner at the Louvre Museum on July 25. They were seen at the opening ceremony, where they cheered on Danish athletes.

 

 

King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain were greeted by French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte at the Elysee Presidential Palace before the opening ceremony. The Spanish royals were later seen braving the rain to attend the opening ceremony.

 

Queen Maxima and King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands displayed their support for Dutch athletes by donning bright orange outfits. Their presence at the opening ceremony highlighted their enthusiasm for the Games and their nation's athletes.

Queen Mathilde and King Philippe of Belgium joined other royals for the IOC & Elysee Dinner at the Louvre on July 25 and were later seen at a reception with President Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron on July 26.

 

Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg were also in attendance for the IOC & Elysee Dinner, marking their presence at the start of the Olympic events.

The royal attendance underscores the global significance of the Olympic Games and the continued tradition of royal involvement in this prestigious international event.
