KARACHI:

The Maripur police arrested 15 people for violating ban on swimming in the sea. The ban on swimming in the sea is currently in place to protect the lives of citizens.

Deputy Commissioner Keamari Junaid Khan has submitted a report to Commissioner Karachi Syed Hasan Naqvi regarding the implementation of the ban on swimming in sea. The report said that the district administration has taken effective steps to enforce Section 144 strictly. Police have arrested 15 people and registered cases against them.

Earlier, citizens of the metropolitan city were openly defying a ban on bathing in the sea to beat the heat amid severe hot and humid conditions exacerbated by prolonged power outages.

The Karachi commissioner had imposed Section 144 in the coastal areas of the metropolis which includes prohibition of bathing in the sea due to safety concerns.

Citizens, however, attribute the defiance to long-hour load-shedding, which they claim has made adherence to the ban difficult.
