A man, along with his friends, allegedly subjected his ex-wife to torture in public while one of the accused filmed the incident that took place in the limits of Saddar Wah police station on Thursday.
The police arrested the three suspects, including the ex-husband and the man who recorded the video.
The footage of the incident shows the woman being gabbed and beaten up by the accused just as she stepped out of her house. She was thrown down in the street, with some passers-by and residents seen in the video trying to help her.
CPO Rawalpindi, Khalid Hamdani took strict notice of the incident and ordered SP Pothohar to take action against the accused after the video footage surfaced.
The victim, Atlas Bibi, informed the police and they arrested the three suspects, including the victim's ex-husband Mumtaz Geelani and his friends Nadeem and Khalid Shah. A case has been registered against them.
In her statement, the plaintiff said she had filed a claim for maintenance against her ex-husband Mumtaz Geelani. In retaliation, he and his friends tortured her to force her to withdraw the case. “They beat me up so severely that my shirt was completely ripped off. My neighbours gave me a shirt to cover myself,” she recounted.
CPO Rawalpindi, Khalid Hamdani, emphasised the commitment to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz's vision of "NEVER AGAIN," stating that violence and exploitation of women will not be tolerated and that the accused will be punished accordingly.
