A Florida man is wanted in several Georgia jurisdictions after being accused of stealing mortuary stretchers from two different funeral homes in Acworth and Dallas.

The suspect, identified as 56-year-old Michael Christopher Johnson of Valrico, Florida, has arrest warrants in Acworth for one felony count of entering a vehicle and misdemeanour counts of theft and criminal damage to property, according to the Acworth Police Department.

The theft occurred on 8 May, when officers were called to Georgia Funeral Care at 4761 South Main Street after the stretcher was reported stolen. Investigators discovered that a funeral home vehicle had been damaged during the theft. Mortuary and medical stretchers can cost over $1,000.

During the investigation, Acworth police learnt that Johnson had committed similar crimes in other areas. Two days before the Acworth incident, another stretcher was stolen from Benson’s Funeral Home at 309 Hardee Street in Dallas, according to local police. Johnson faces one count of felony entering a vehicle in Dallas as well.

Dallas police released a photo of Johnson and his vehicle, a silver Chrysler Town & Country minivan with Florida tags PM759X. Authorities did not disclose when he was last seen, and Johnson remains at large.
