A Florida man, Michael M. Wiseman, was arrested and charged with making alleged social media threats against former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance.

The Jupiter Police Department in Florida announced the arrest on Friday, citing charges of written threats to kill.

“After investigating the reports and the suspect’s Facebook account, JPD detectives found that Wiseman had made multiple threats against Trump and Vance, who earlier this week became the Republican nominees for President and Vice President, respectively,” the JPD stated. They added that threats also targeted members of the Trump and Vance families.

The arrest comes just days after an assassination attempt on Trump, intensifying concerns about political violence and scrutiny of the Secret Service. Trump was shot in the ear last Saturday during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The attack resulted in the death of one rallygoer, injuries to two others, and the shooter being killed shortly after opening fire.

Jupiter police coordinated their investigation with the Secret Service and the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office. The investigation began after receiving multiple online crime tips and concerns from local residents. A spokesperson for the Secret Service did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday night.
