A 40-year-old woman, Haleema Bibi, was successfully operated on at the Rawalpindi District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for her broken neck following a fall from a roof.
On the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the patient was transferred from Mianwali to DHQ Hospital Rawalpindi by Pakistan’s first air ambulance service for civilians.
Haleema sustained injuries to her cervical vertebrae when she fell from a ten-foot-high roof in Mianwali. After being treated for three days at the Mianwali DHQ Hospital, doctors recommended transferring her to the Rawalpindi DHQ Hospital, which has a large and modern neurosurgery department.
Upon learning of the situation, the chief minister instructed the immediate transfer of Haleema to Rawalpindi DHQ Hospital by air ambulance on Monday. On Tuesday, under the supervision of Professor Ashraf Mehmood, Head of the Neurosurgery Department, a team of neurosurgeons successfully operated on Haleema for one and a half hours.
Professor Mehmood informed The Express Tribune that the complex operation remained successful.
