KARACHI:

Six people were swept away by waves while bathing in the sea at Sandspit and Seaview beaches. Three of them, including a woman, lost their lives, while three others were rescued by lifeguards and shifted to hospital in critical condition.

In the first incident, five people, including women, were swept away by huge waves as they ventured into deep water off Sandspit Hut No 6 in the limits of Mauripur police station. Two of them, including one woman, died while three others were rescued by divers and volunteers in critical condition.

They were shifted to hospital for treatment. The deceased have been identified as 30-year-old Noreen, wife of Sheera, and 40-year-old Arshad. Among those rescued are 45-year-old Zabeen, wife of Raees, 30-year-old Sobia, wife of Bashir Ahmed, and 28-year-old Asma, wife of Rauf. All belong to the same family from Gujjar Nullah, Liaquatabad.

In a second incident, a young man identified as 24-year-old Danish from Sultanabad's Hijrat Colony drowned while bathing at Seaview near Chunky Monkey within the remits of Derakhshan police station.

He was devoured by the merciless waves before he could be rescued by lifeguards and volunteers.

According to reports, Danish had come to Seaview with his cousins, and despite warnings from officials about dangerous sea conditions, he entered the water. His cousins informed the police and family upon his disappearance.

Syed Muzamil Hussain, Rescue Incharge of Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC), expressed deep regret over the incidents, highlighting ongoing efforts to patrol and warn beachgoers of dangerous conditions. He stressed that despite these warnings, tragedies like these continue to occur due to disregarding safety advisories.

Hussain urged citizens to heed warnings, particularly during this period of heightened sea danger, which extends until September 15.
