Ryan Reynolds explains why he has never co-starred with wife Blake Lively

Ryan Reynolds jokes, “I can't afford her fee”

Ryan Reynolds humorously revealed the reason behind never having worked alongside his wife, Blake Lively, on screen, citing financial constraints. In a lighthearted exchange with Comicbook.com while promoting his upcoming film with Hugh Jackman, Deadpool & Wolverine, Reynolds joked about Lively's "fee" being beyond his budget.

The Proposal star quipped that Lively is "not half the friend that Hugh is," playfully unaware of the rolling cameras. Jackman  joined in, reminiscing about their longstanding friendship predating Reynolds and Lively's relationship. Reynolds acknowledged Jackman's precedence, fondly referencing Hollywood's Golden Age when real-life couples like Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn starred together.

"In the old days, they all got to work together, hanging out," Reynolds mused. "We got Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn … That’d be nice, I’d love to work with Blake."

While Lively hasn't appeared on screen alongside Reynolds, she contributed to Deadpool & Wolverine by purchasing a ping-pong table for the cast to unwind between scenes. Reynolds and Jackman's camaraderie, forged during their earlier collaboration in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, deepened during the making of their latest film.

Reflecting on a heartwarming moment with Jackman and his children singing along to The Greatest Showman, Reynolds shared, "I’ve started a new life in a new country with a secret family," jokingly referencing the bond between Jackman and his kids.

Jackman, who returned to his iconic role after retiring it post-Logan in 2017, expressed delight in exploring a lighter side of Wolverine alongside Deadpool. He highlighted the film's ability to showcase a new facet of the character through humor and emotional depth, revitalizing his experience after 25 years in the role.
