KARACHI:

The rainfall in the city under the influence of monsoon winds on Sunday made the weather pleasant briefly, but the stifling heat returned with a vengeance once the brief showers were over.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the highest precipitation was recorded at Old Airport at 20 mm and the lowest in DHA Phase II and Keamari 2.5mm.

The temperature reached 40.5 degrees Celsius for the second time this year. The heat index felt like 50 degrees Celsius. However, PMD said the record of hottest day of July in Karachi has not been broken as yet. On July 18, 2020, the temperature in the city was recorded at 42.6 degrees.

PMD said that due to low atmospheric pressure, the city experienced an extremely hot and humid day on Sunday. The inactivity of sea breezes led to an increase in humidity levels and temperature, resulting in a heat index higher than the actual temperature.

After a stiflingly humid day, clouds poured down rain, resulting in moderate to heavy rainfall in various areas while some places experienced light rain and drizzle. After the rain, there was a slight decrease in heat intensity, but the stifling heat remained.
