The metropolitan city was lashed by monsoon rains for second consecutive day on Saturday amidst sweltering heat and humidity. The previous day, light to moderate showers had relieved the southern parts of the city from dry conditions.
Despite sunny intervals elsewhere, rain persisted in various neighbourhoods. Light rain, drizzles, and showers are expected today (Sunday) and Monday, mainly in the evening and night hours. Before the rain on Saturday, the city braved extremely hot and humid weather. Sea breeze kept the minimum temperature at 30.5°C with humidity peaking at 76%, leading to grueling conditions. By afternoon, rain began in suburban areas accompanied by gusty winds.
Showers intermittently affected locations, including Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulzar-e-Hijri, New Nazimabad, DHA Phase 7 and 8, Boat Basin, Clifton Block 5, Haidery, KDA Chowrangi, North Nazimabad, Karachi Airport, Tipu Sultan Road, Expressway, Qayyumabad, Baloch Colony, Mahmoodabad, Malir, Quaidabad, II Chundrigar Road, Ahsanabad, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Steel Town, Shah Latif Town, Shah Faisal Town and others.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) data, Nazimabad received the highest rainfall with 37.2mm. Keamari followed with 29.5mm, Mauripur Road with 26mm, Korangi with 22mm, Quaidabad with 12mm, Sharae Faisal with 7mm, Orangi Town with 6.5mm, DHA Phase 2 with 3.5mm, Jinnah Terminal with 3.2mm, Ibrahim Hyderi with 3mm, University Road with 2.4mm, Old Airport with 1.7mm, and Gulshan-e-Hadeed with 1mm.
Despite the rain, the city's temperature at 2pm was 34°C, with humidity at 62%, resulting in a heat index of 43°C. The PMD's Early Warning Centre forecasts continued monsoon winds entering Sindh, bringing the likelihood of further showers from Sunday evening to Monday night. Thunderstorms are also expected in rural districts of the province.
