KARACHI:

Monsoon rains have added to the miseries in the lives of the citizens due to the apparent neglect by concerned authorities.

On Saturday, the city's traffic system was severely disrupted after the rain by the poor condition of roads, exacerbated by rainwater accumulating in large, deep potholes on already dilapidated streets.

One particularly deep pothole on road near Shafiq Mor has impeded traffic flow for several months.

The situation has caused difficulties for motorists, especially the bikers, leading to frequent accidents.

Frustrated citizens on site lamented the negligence on city roads by authorities, despite the arrival of a new budget. The deterioration persists, with uncertainty surrounding the utilisation of funds allocated in previous budgets for development projects.

Repairs and maintenance, including the lining and patching of these dilapidated roads, have remained incomplete.

Residents expressed dismay over the apparent indifference of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), District Municipal Corporations (DMCs), and other concerned bodies towards their plight.

They emphasised that ensuring the construction and upkeep of these roads should be a paramount responsibility of the authorities, as the current state continues to pose significant challenges for commuters across various neighbourhoods.
