RAWALPINDI:

A new Chinese toy game has hypnotised the youth and people from all walks of life in the streets, neighbourhoods and bazaars of Rawalpindi. Children, youngsters and adults are seen wasting their valuable time while playing with this mysterious and nameless Chinese toy.

This addictive game has especially captivated the attention of kids, who are spending their pocket money on it, neglecting their studies during the summer holidays. Wherever they go to the market or elsewhere, they seem to be engrossed in this toy game. However, it's worth observing that none of the players appear to know the game's name, its purpose, or its benefits. Despite this lack of understanding, the game has somehow managed to find its way into every household in the city.

The game involves two small and hard plastic balls which are attached to a strong and tight elastic band. A hook in the centre allows players to hold the balls. These two balls are first gently rotated and then rapidly struck together, causing the plastic balls to collide and produce a satisfying sound. The objective of the game appears to be the enjoyment of this sound, with players deriving pleasure from the collision of the balls.

Many children playing in markets and streets are so engrossed in rolling the balls that they are hit and injured by speeding motorcycles. Despite the risks, the game is getting popular, with children even playing it while carrying out grocery items like bread, milk, meat and vegetables.

With its origin in China, the game’s popularity has led to its widespread availability across the city, with all grocery shops, general stores, gift shops and carts selling it. Though the shopkeepers have increased its price from Rs80 to Rs100 in the open market, children and young adults are seen buying it irrespective of knowing its benefits. Interestingly, the game is available with balls in 12 different colours, which has also caught the attention of girls.
