Senior Leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that the power sector’s issues in Pakistan are bigger than any terrorism. The most expensive electricity in the region is in Pakistan. There is no electricity, but inflated bills are being sent to consumers. Government should declare an emergency and resolve the electricity crisis.
Kamal expressed these views during a press conference at Pakistan House, accompanied by MQM-P leaders including Anis Qaimkhani, Syed Aminul Haq, and opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly. He said that we have presented proposals to the government to solve the power sector issues.
He said, foreign investment is not coming, taxes on the salaried class are increasing, and more taxes are imposed on those who are already paying taxes.
He claimed, there is more electricity available in the country than the demand. Pakistan has the capacity to produce 45,000MW of electricity. There are 40 IPPs that are generating electricity, while the demand is for a maximum of 30,000MW. “We are not against privatisation, but there should not be the monopoly of one company.
