HBO has unveiled the trailer for its highly anticipated prequel series, Dune: Prophecy, set to debut in November. The six-episode series, previously titled Dune: The Sisterhood, explores the origins of the Bene Gesserit 10,000 years before the events of Frank Herbert’s seminal sci-fi novel, Dune.

Dune: Prophecy, based on the book Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, features a stellar cast including Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Camilla Beeput, Sarah Lam, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Mark Strong, Jade Anouka, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, and Chris Mason. According to HBO’s official logline, the series follows the Harkonnen Sisters (portrayed by Watson and Williams) as they combat forces threatening the future of humankind and establish the fabled Bene Gesserit sect. The trailer highlights the early days of the Bene Gesserit, showcasing intricate plotting and power struggles in space.

Creator and executive producer Diane Ademu-John was initially set to co-showrun the series but stepped down in 2022. Alison Schapker then took over as the sole showrunner and executive producer. Johan Renck will direct the first episode and serve as an executive producer. The executive production team includes Denis Villeneuve, Jon Spaihts, Scott Z. Burns, Matthew King, John Cameron, and Cait Collins, along with Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, and Kim Herbert from the Frank Herbert estate. Anderson also serves as a co-producer, with the series being produced in collaboration with Max and Legendary TV.

Denis Villeneuve’s first Dune movie, released in 2021 on Max and in theaters, grossed nearly $400 million worldwide despite its simultaneous streaming release. The latest installment, Dune: Part Two, released on March 1, 2024, has grossed over $700 million globally, making it the highest-grossing film of the year until it was surpassed by Inside Out 2.
