Paramount+ with Showtime has released first-look images for the upcoming "Dexter" prequel series, "Dexter: Original Sin." The 10-episode thriller, set 15 years before the original series, explores the early life of Dexter Morgan.

Set in 1991 Miami, the series stars Patrick Gibson as a young Dexter Morgan, Christian Slater as his father, Harry Morgan, and Molly Brown as his sister, Debra Morgan. According to the official synopsis, "Dexter: Original Sin follows Dexter (Gibson) as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department."

The original "Dexter" series, which aired on Showtime from 2006 to 2013, starred Michael C. Hall as Dexter and Jennifer Carpenter as Debra. Clyde Phillips, the original showrunner and executive producer of "Dexter," returns to his role for "Original Sin."

The additional cast for "Dexter: Original Sin" includes Patrick Dempsey as Aaron Spencer, James Martinez as Angel Batista, Christina Milian as Maria LaGuerta, Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka, and Reno Wilson as Bobby Watt. Special guest star Sarah Michelle Gellar plays Tanya Martin, Dexter’s new boss at the Miami Metro Police Department.

The series is produced by Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios. Alongside Clyde Phillips, executive producers include Scott Reynolds, Michael C. Hall, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns, with Robert Lloyd Lewis as producer. Michael Lehmann serves as directing executive producer.

"Dexter: Original Sin" promises to delve into Dexter’s early years, offering fans a deeper understanding of his transformation into a serial killer who targets only those who deserve it. The series aims to recapture the intrigue and suspense that made the original show a hit.
