Dubai princess appears to give husband ‘triple talaq’ on public Instagram account

Shaikha Mahra cites infidelity as reason behind end of marriage in shocking post

In a move straight out of a modern fairy tale gone awry, Shaikha Mahra bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, daughter of Dubai's ruler, has taken to Instagram to announce the end of her marriage in a bombshell post, BBC reported.

Accusing her husband, Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum, of being "occupied with other companions," she declared, "I divorce you, I divorce you, and I divorce you," invoking the Islamic practice of triple talaq.

However, Islamic law does not recognise triple talaq as an option for women. Instead, women must seek annulment through khula, a formal court process initiated by the wife to request a divorce. This discrepancy has added another layer of complexity to the unfolding drama.

The couple's whirlwind romance, which began with a lavish wedding in April 2023, has seemingly hit a wall just two months after they welcomed their first child. The heartfelt post, starting with "Dear Husband" and ending with "Take care. Your ex-wife," has set social media abuzz. With no comments from either family and both parties swiftly unfollowing each other on social media, the digital divorce declaration has sparked widespread speculation.

Some users initially suspected that Shaikha Mahra's account had been hacked, but there has been no indication of foul play since the post went public on Wednesday. The intrigue deepened when Shaikha Mahra posted a picture of her daughter captioned "Just the two of us," hinting at the brewing storm within their marriage.

While the family of Shaikha Mahra and her husband remain silent, the public's reaction has been anything but. Followers have flooded the comments with support and well-wishes, praising her bravery in the face of personal turmoil.
