Over 25,000 job seekers flocked to Mumbai's Kalina area for a walk-in interview at Air India Airport Services Ltd on Tuesday, which had announced 2,216 vacancies for handyman positions involving repair and maintenance tasks.

Despite limited openings, chaos ensued as a massive crowd gathered prompting fears of a potential stampede outside the recruitment office.

Eventually, applicants were asked to leave their resumes and return home.

The job involves heavy lifting and operational tasks, offering monthly salaries ranging from ₹20,000 to ₹25,000, with potential overtime allowances pushing earnings above ₹30,000.

Educational requirements for employment were flexible, emphasizing more on physical strength and readiness for rigorous duties.

George Abram, general secretary of the Aviation Industry Employees Guild, criticized the recruitment process, urging caution among applicants regarding payments.

Organizers promised to review all resumes and notify eligible candidates for further steps, highlighting challenges in managing large-scale recruitment events and intense job competition.
