At least 28 doctors, who are posted at as many Primary Health Centres in Rawalpindi, were found absent from their duties. The absence was checked from the biometric system.
Absent male and female doctors were declared guilty of negligence and misconduct after multiple telephone calls, notices of absence through WhatsApp groups and proof of absence in the management information system cell.
Sources said that Rawalpindi District Health Authority (DHA) Chief Executive Officer Dr Asif Niazi summoned the doctors and issued them a strict warning not to be absent from duty again. Earlier, they were served notices to appear in writing and explain why an action should not be taken against them for negligence in duty and misconduct.
PHCs have only one doctor at a time and citizens belonging to the poor segment of society visit these centres established in the rural areas for treatment.
Dr Abdullah, Dr Amar Anwar, Dr Bilal, Dr Rafi Ali Waince, Dr Zona Saeed, Dr Muhammad Mueez Aslam and Dr Yasir Malik were among those declared absent from their duties in Rawalpindi, Murree, Kotli Sittan, Kahota, Gujar Khan and Taxila.
