Former NFL wide receiver Jacoby Jones has died at the age of 40. The NFL Players Association and the Baltimore Ravens confirmed the news on Sunday, stating that Jones died peacefully at his home in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Jones played for the Houston Texans, Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers, and San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers during his nine-year NFL career. He was a key player in the Ravens' 2013 Super Bowl win, becoming the first player in Super Bowl history to score a receiving touchdown and a return touchdown in the same game.
The Ravens organization released a statement honoring Jones, saying that he had a unique ability to connect with everyone he encountered and that his charisma, joy, and love created a one-of-a-kind presence.
Many of Jones' former teammates and coaches took to social media to share their condolences and memories of him. Ravens head coach John Harbaugh called Jones a "light" and said that his spirit, enthusiasm, and love for people were powerful.
Jones was also a competitor on the TV show "Dancing with the Stars" in 2013, finishing in third place. He was set to become the head coach and offensive coordinator for the Beaumont Renegades, a newly-formed indoor football team, in 2025.
