Japan provides sewerage machinery for Multan

100km long sewerage network, 1,000km water supply lines decayed

MULTAN:

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has offered help to improve the sewerage services in Multan with sustainable sanitation.

A team of experts from JICA called on WASA Managing Director Chaudhary Muhammad Danish and assured him of providing complete training to run the machinery provided by Japan to enhance the sewerage services in the city.

The officials of JICA, a development and aid implementing agency of Japan for technical cooperation in projects, pledged to extend every possible cooperation for repairing the old equipment for cleaning sewerage lines and relocating reusable equipment to where it is needed the most.

The MD said WASA was facing a challenge due to the decay of the sewerage and water supply systems in Multan city. "It's very important to replace the old lines to deal with these challenges," he maintained.

He said there had been many incidents of pollution of water supply in different areas of the city almost every day in the past.

He said the more than 100km long sewerage network with approximately 1,000km of water supply lines were decayed and there was an urgent need for mega projects of replacement of water supply lines.

He praised the cooperation of the Japanese agency in the project of supplying modern machinery to the Multan WASA. He expressed hope that the modern machinery offered by Japan would lead to improved delivery of public services in parts of the city.
