Benji Gregory, the actor best known for his role as Brian Tanner on the hit sitcom "ALF," has passed away at the age of 46. On June 13, he was found deceased in his car in a Chase Bank parking lot in Peoria, Arizona. Those close to Gregory believe he fell asleep in his car the day before while visiting the bank to deposit checks, and died from vehicular heatstroke as temperatures soared to 109 degrees. His service dog, Hans, was also found dead in the vehicle.
The Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office has not yet determined an official cause of death. However, Gregory's sister, Rebecca Hertzberg-Pfaffinger, told TMZ that he struggled with depression, bipolar disorder, and a sleep disorder.
Gregory rose to fame as a child actor, playing Brian Tanner in all 101 episodes of "ALF" from 1986 to 1990. The show revolved around the Tanner family's encounter with Gordon Shumway, an alien life form who crash-landed in their garage.
While plans for an "ALF" reboot were cancelled in 2018, Shout! Factory recently acquired the rights to the show and is developing new related content.
