The Election Commission of Pakistan has assured the Islamabad High Court that local body elections in the federal capital will be held on September 29.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani presided over the case concerning these elections, where it was disclosed that the electioning body has committed to this date.
During the hearing, the election commission mentioned that amending the Election Act is necessary for conducting the elections. Specific issues related to seats remain unresolved, prompting the court to note that if any problems arise, a separate petition should be filed, and the hearing will proceed after the vacations. The court instructed all parties involved to submit detailed para-wise comments.
In response to inquiries about the status of the election commission, it was revealed that there is a four-month process involved. The lawyer noted that the Election Act bill is currently in process and has been passed by the cabinet but has yet to be presented in parliament.
