A24 has released the trailer for the upcoming romantic drama "We Live in Time," starring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield. Directed by John Crowley, the film is set for a limited theatrical release on October 11.
The story follows Almut (Pugh), an aspiring chef, and Tobias (Garfield), a recently divorced man, as they navigate their relationship over several decades. According to the film’s official logline, Almut and Tobias are brought together by a surprise encounter that changes their lives. The narrative captures snapshots of their life together — from falling in love and building a home to starting a family. A difficult truth later emerges, challenging the foundation of their relationship. The film explores how they learn to cherish each moment on their unconventional journey.
The trailer depicts the couple’s evolving relationship over ten years, starting from an incident where Almut accidentally hits Tobias with her car, to later sharing their story with their young daughter. Pugh and Garfield, who presented the screenplay prizes together at the 2023 Oscars, bring their chemistry to this new project.
"We Live in Time" will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. The Paris-based film production and distribution company StudioCanal sold the movie to A24 for U.S. distribution at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
The screenplay, written by Nick Payne, known for his work on "The Crown" and Netflix’s "The Last Letter From Your Lover," was developed in collaboration with StudioCanal. The film is executive produced by Benedict Cumberbatch through his company SunnyMarch, alongside Leah Clarke, Adam Ackland, and Guy Heeley. Ron Halpern and Joe Naftalin also serve as producers for StudioCanal.
