Doja Cat’s Twitter gets hacked to promote $DOJA crypto coin

American rapper and singer Doja Cat is the latest celebrity to have her Twitter (now called X) account hacked to advertise a Solana-based meme coin. She promptly informed her 24 million Instagram followers that she was not behind the posts.

Doja Cat's account started tweeting about cryptocurrency at 7:15 pm ET on Monday. The initial post included a link to a holding address and urged users to "buy $DOJA or else."

The hacker posted over two dozen times and deleted Doja Cat's profile picture and description from her account, which has around 5.6 million followers.

Twitter users swiftly identified the tweets as coming from a hacked account.

The hacker also posted about other celebrities, including Iggy Azalea, who reportedly supports crypto and often tweets about her $MOTHER meme coin and Crypto Twitter.

In response to Doja Cat's hack, Azalea tweeted, “Get rugged if yall want, but I’m cool with that girl in real life so yall fucked up with that tweet, hackers.”

Blockchain records and market data show that the new $DOJA token, available on Solana market maker Raydium, experienced relatively low activity compared to previous incidents. There were fewer than 15,000 transactions, generating around $2.2 million in volume.

This incident is the latest in a series of hacks targeting social accounts of celebrities, typically those with tens of millions of followers, and promoting Solana-based meme coins.

Last month, former wrestling star Hulk Hogan's Twitter account was hacked to promote a similar scam. This was followed by rapper 50 Cent's account being compromised, and Metallica's account was hacked a week later.
