Cara Delevingne is sharing her experiences with sobriety.

In a July 7 interview with The Sunday Times, the model talked about her previous battles with substance abuse, recalling that when they first met in 2001, she "got drunk that day."

“I was eight, what a crazy age to get drunk," acknowledged Delevingne, aged 31.

She also discussed the extensive blaze that consumed her unique Los Angeles residence in March, resulting in the collapse of its roof.

“It sucks but everyone was safe and, like anything, if I’d not been sober I would still be reeling over that," Delevingne remarked, noting that firefighters rescued her cats, who survived the ordeal.

"It would still affect me really deeply. Of course it affected me, it’s super sad," she said. "It never won’t be. But I don’t use it as a tool to keep myself sad.”

During the interview, she also talked about her feelings regarding frequent socializing.

“I used to think drugs and alcohol helped me cope … but they didn’t, they kept me sad and super depressed. I feel like I’ve got my power back and I’m not being controlled by other things."

However, she doesn't mind being around friends who drink when they're out together at parties, festivals, or other events.

She also thought about the paparazzi images from the 2022 Burning Man festival that served as a wake-up call and partly motivated her to pursue sobriety.

Delevingne has been open about her path to sobriety previously. Speaking to Vogue for their April 2023 cover, she discussed her participation in a 12-step program, noting, "This process obviously has its ups and downs, but I've started realizing so much."
