KARACHI:

A fire that broke out on the fourth floor of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) building located on Karachi's I. I. Chundrigar Road earlier today has now been doused.

The blaze, which led to a temporary suspension of trading on Monday, was brought under control by the fire brigade, who swiftly responded to the incident.

Initially, trading was suspended at 10:25am due to the incident, with activities scheduled to resume at 11:25am. However, the suspension of trading has been extended by an additional hour and will now remain in effect until 12:25pm, according to sources.

Cooling operations are currently underway to ensure no further flare-ups. Initial reports indicate that there were no casualties, though minor financial damage is anticipated.

The people present inside the PSX building were evacuated to the parking lot.

According to officials, the blaze broke out on the fourth floor of the stock exchange building due to short-circuiting.

The fire brigade promptly dispatched three fire hydrants to the scene upon receiving reports of the blaze. Authorities worked to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the building

Trading was suspended at the stock exchange following the fire incident.
