KARACHI:

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Munem Zafar has demanded of the occupation mayor, Murtaza Wahab, to expedite the cleanliness work of rain drains as the city is expecting downpour in the days to come.

The JI leader expressed these views while addressing a press conference, held at Idara Noor-e-Haq, the JI Karachi headquarters, here on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, he lambasted the Pakistan People Party government over the delay in the release of these funds.

He elaborated that the cleanliness work was supposed to be done in the month of May, however the work is yet to be done.

On one hand, the government delayed the release of funds, whereas on the other, the amount was reduced to Rs260 million from Rs670 million, he said.

The JI leader further said that the water board was supposed to change the affected pipelines in collaboration with the International Monetary Fund, the Asian Development Bank, and the Sindh government.

He recalled that the project was supposed to be started in 2019 and completed in 2031 in four phases, with a cost of 1.6 billion dollars. He further said that 100 million dollars were allocated for the first phase but unfortunately, the phase has been in limbo for the past five years.

Further talking about the government's faulty policies, he said that both the PPP and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement have been trading barbs which is nothing but friendly fire. He held both the parties responsible for the prevailing situation.
