Two CTD officials booked in abduction, extortion case

Accused kidnapped a citizen, extorted money from family still made false cases against him

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) is in the eye of the storm again. Two officers of the force responsible for national security have been accused of ‘abducting’ a man to ‘extort’ money from his family for his release.

This is the second concerning incident in over a month as in May some CTD officers were penalised after a hostage was recovered from a CTD office during a raid conducted by the Rangers.

In the latest case, a woman named Ainee registered a complaint at Soldier Bazaar police station against Inspector Rafaqat and Malik Khalid of CTD Garden. She alleged that the CTD officers abducted a man named Muhammad Ali and demanded a ransom of Rs2 million from his family. “They did not release him even after receiving the ransom amount and instead falsely implicated him in another case,” she alleged in her complaint.

Subsequently, IG Sindh Police Ghulam Nabi Memon ordered an inquiry into the matter. An investigation committee, he formed, found the accused CTD officials guilty and charged them.

The committee was headed by by CTD DIG Asif Ejaz Sheikh, and included DIG District East Azfar Mahiser, and SSP District East Farrukh Raza as its members.

The case registered at Soldier Bazaar police station against the accused CTD officers invoked Sections 365, 384, and 385 of Pakistan Penal Code.
