In an open discussion on "Chicken Shop Date," singer SZA delved into the creative sparks behind her hit song "Kill Bill," revealing her thoughts on the lyrics that propelled the track to global acclaim.

Known for her transparency, SZA admitted to host Amelia Dimoldenberg that she was taken aback by her own words, especially the chorus where she fantasizes about killing her ex-boyfriend.

"Oh my God," SZA exclaimed, reflecting on her initial reaction. "That was so crazy and harsh."

During the interview, she pointed out specific lyrics she found over the top, like "rather be in jail than alone," questioning the representation of her actual feelings.

This introspection isn't new for SZA; she previously expressed hesitancy about the song to People Magazine.

Despite her doubts, producer Rob Bisel convinced her to go ahead with the release, praising the speed and intensity of her songwriting process.

Bisel recalled how the hook and melody were crafted in under an hour, describing it as something that "just kind of fell out of the sky."

The decision to release "Kill Bill" certainly paid off.

The track not only climbed to the second spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks but also reached number one with a remix featuring Doja Cat.

This marked SZA's first number one as a solo artist and garnered three Grammy nominations, including Best R&B Performance, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year.
