KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday suspended a notification that reinstated Dr Prof Nadeem Memon as Chairman of the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK).

Dr Memon had earlier been removed from his position due to allegations of sexual harassment.

While appearing before the SHC bench, the petitioner's counsel argued that Dr Memon had been removed from his position by the provincial ombudsman after being found guilty of sexual harassment. Subsequently, the University and Boards Department had also suspended him. However, on December 12, 2023, the notification of his suspension was unexpectedly withdrawn.

The court observed that the allegations of sexual harassment against Dr Memon had been substantiated. As a result, it suspended the notification reinstating him as Chairman of the BIEK and barred him from holding any post until further notice.

SHC issues order against KE in power outages case

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued a written order against K-Electric (KE) on a petition regarding announced and unannounced electricity shutdowns during the recent deadly heatwave in the metropolitan city.

KE counsel Abid Zuberi Advocate requested a copy of the petition and sought additional time to submit a report detailing their action plan and social responsibilities during heatwaves. Subsequently, the court adjourned the hearing until July 15.

Usman Farooq Advocate, representing the petitioners including Jamaat-e-Islami, argued that KE holds responsibility for electricity generation and maintaining transmission lines. Several lives have been lost recently due to heat-related issues exacerbated by power shortages in the metropolis.
