ICT bans petrol-based bikes’ sale

In a bid to mitigate environmental pollution, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has imposed a ban on the purchase of petrol-based motorcycles in the federal capital.

He has directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to procure of electric bikes and run eco-friendly electric buses for public transportation in Islamabad.

Presiding over a meeting at the CDA headquarters, Interior Minister Naqvi emphasised the need for the CDA to enhance its revenue streams rather than solely relying on the sale of land. He instructed the CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa to prepare and submit an investment plan within seven days.

During the meeting, CDA Chairman Randhawa provided an extensive briefing on various ongoing and planned projects. The session was attended by Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon and CDA members. Among the key decisions was the transfer of emergency services from the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) to the CDA, ensuring international standard emergency services for the residents of Islamabad.

The establishment of the Capital Water and Sewerage Agency (WASA) was also discussed, with plans to finalise the setup of the Capital Waste Management Company soon. Minister Naqvi highlighted that construction work on the Serena Chowk Underpass.
