Armed men clad in police uniforms snatched a car worth over Rs10 million and Rs5,75 million in cash from a citizen who had come from Gujrat to buy a car in the limits of Mandra police station in Rawalpindi.
According to the police, Imran Ali, a resident of Gujarat, filed a case stating that he lives abroad and was on vacation in Pakistan. He saw a car advertisement on PakWheel and visited a showroom in Islamabad. Although he didn't like the advertised car, the showroom’s owner, Muhammad Atif, showed him another vehicle which he liked, and the deal on a deal for Rs35 million.
Ali paid a Rs500,000 deposit online, agreeing to pay Rs7.5 million in cash along with his Prado worth Rs18 million and another car worth Rs10 million. Accompanied by his friend Usman, Ali parked his car and went to Gujarat to collect the money.
Upon returning to Islamabad with Rs5,550,000 and the cheque for the remaining amount, the showroom owner objected that the value of his Prado was less than Rs18 million. Consequently, the deal fell through, and the showroom’s owner assured Ali that he would return the deposit later. After an argument over the deposit, Ali and Usman left for Gujrat.
When they reached the Mandra Toll Plaza, a police vehicle with revolving lights, carrying two armed men in police uniforms and two men in plain clothes, intercepted Ali to stop. They forced him into their car, tied his hands, blindfolded him, and kept inquiring about the money. They then took his car worth Rs10 million and Rs5.75 million in cash, abandoned him by the roadside, and fled the scene.
Ali requested a passerby to allow him to make a phone call from his phone to inform the police about the incident.
