To ensure a peaceful and smooth traffic flow during the month of Muharram, the City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi have devised a comprehensive traffic plan.
According to the plan, over 931 traffic police officers will be deployed on special duty to manage traffic and maintain law and order. Certain roads leading to congregations and processions will be closed, and alternative routes will be designated to divert traffic.
Acting on the directives of Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi, Taimoor Khan, CTP Rawalpindi have devised a comprehensive and organised traffic plan to facilitate citizens and provide optimal traffic arrangements during Muharram.
As per the plan, 931 personnel, including 11 DSPs/circle incharges, 110 senior traffic wardens, and 810 traffic warden assistants will perform special duties during this period. To ensure security, the traffic police will divert traffic to alternative routes in collaboration with the district police during Majalis and processions. Special arrangements have been made to maintain a smooth traffic flow on these alternative routes.
CTO Rawalpindi convened a meeting with all DSPs/circle in-charges, sector in-charges, and duty officers at the Traffic Headquarters to discuss the traffic plan for Muharram. He issued explicit instructions to ensure the safe and smooth flow of traffic during processions and gatherings. Specifically, he directed the officials that vehicles and motorcycles should be parked at a distance of 500 yards, and a ban on pillion riding should be strictly enforced.
During Muharram, a strict crackdown will be launched against vehicles flouting traffic rules. Vehicles and motorcycles without number plates, or black paper, and such motorcycles and vehicles should be locked in police stations.
The CTO emphasised that teamwork and complete coordination are crucial to prevent terrorism and ensure law and order. All officers and personnel must diligently and responsibly execute their duties to implement the traffic plan, particularly during these important days. Any form of negligence or laxity will not be tolerated, he added.
