Niakhate joins Lyon in record €31.9m transfer from Nottingham Forest

Senegal defender joins Olympique Lyonnais for club's highest ever transfer fee, signing a contract until June 2028

Senegal international Moussa Niakhate has completed a permanent transfer from Nottingham Forest to Ligue 1 club Olympique Lyonnais, the French side announced on Thursday.

The 28-year old defender, who joined Forest from Mainz in 2022, spent the last two seasons in the Premier League appearing in 35 games.

Olympique Lyonnais said in a statement that they would pay 31.9 million euros ($34.48 million) to Nottingham Forest, making it the highest transfer fee ever for the club.

The move follows the signing of former Forest midfielder Orel Mangala, who completed a permanent transfer to Lyon worth around 17.7 million euros on Tuesday.

Niakhate will stay at the club until June 30, 2028.
