The number of union councils in the federal capital has been finalised at 125 following the completion of fresh delimitations.
The Regional Election Commissioner of Rawalpindi Division is now set to hear objections regarding the new constituencies. An official notice has been issued, calling on all citizens of Islamabad and political parties to submit their objections by July 5 against the newly demarcated constituencies.
In the notice, the regional election commissioner has specified that objections can be submitted at the Rawalpindi election office during office hours until July 5. The hearings for these objections will commence on July 6.
Under the new constituency boundaries, the union councils in Islamabad's inner city sectors have been reduced in size, with each council now covering a population of 15,000 to 18,000 residents. In contrast, the union councils in the village areas of Islamabad have been established with populations ranging from 24,000 to 25,000 people.
As of Monday, no objections had been received from citizens or political activists in Islamabad regarding the new union council constituencies.
However, there is still time to file objections until Friday, July 5. Following the decisions of the Objections Appellate Authority, the District Election Commissioner of Islamabad will issue a final notification confirming all union councils in the federal capital.
This notification will pave the way for the announcement of the local body election schedule in Islamabad.
ECP officials have said the fresh delimitations and the process for addressing objections are crucial in ensuring fair representation and effective governance at the local level in Islamabad.
The authorities have encouraged all stakeholders, including political parties and citizens, to actively participate in this process by reviewing the new constituency boundaries and submitting their concerns or objections if any.
