VEHARI:

Two wildlife officials have been arrested following the death of a monkey in Vehari on Wednesday.

The arrests were made after a case was registered at City Vehari police station.

As per the Wildlife Department, CCTV footage shows the monkey's owner, Muhammad Nasir, taking the monkey alive from the zoo. The department alleges that Nasir, a resident of 12 WB, fled with the monkey to evade fines and punishment. Charges have been submitted against him in court.

Nasir, who makes a living by performing monkey shows, recounted a different version of events.

He claimed that wildlife officials arrested him and attempted to seize the monkey.

In the ensuing struggle, the monkey attacked the officials, who then allegedly tortured and killed the animal.

Following the monkey's death, Nasir brought its body to the City Police Station, leading to the registration of a case and the arrest of two Wildlife Department employees, Immanul Masih and Ali Akbar. District Police Officer (DPO) Mansoor Aman assured that all requirements of justice would be fulfilled in the case.

Assistant Director of Wildlife Vehari, Mohammad Nawaz, held a press conference alongside Supervisor Zohaib Bhara and others.
