LAHORE:

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the authorities concerned to complete the legal formalities at the earliest for the establishment of the Punjab Enforcement Regulatory Authority (PERA).

Chairing a meeting, the chief minister reviewed amendments to the proposed laws and rules for the purpose.

She directed the authorities concerned to create a comprehensive monitoring mechanism for the enforcement authority. She said, “Hoarders cannot be allowed to play with the public interests.” The chief minister was informed during a briefing by the relevant authorities that the PERA would play an effective role in curbing inflation.

It will be established at the provincial level and each district will have an enforcement regulatory board.

The sub-divisional enforcement officers at the tehsil level will ensure the enforcement of law.

The chief minister was apprised, “Hearing officers will hear appeal at the Tehsil level and give a decision. Timelines for decisions by the four appellate forums will be set.”

In each tehsil, 40 officials, including enforcement officers, will monitor the prices of consumer goods and take action against the violators.

The chief minister was informed that streets and bazaars would be widened by removing immovable encroachments.

The tehsil enforcement officers will continue to take action for the permanent removal of encroachments. Cost incurred on removing the encroachments will also be recovered from the violators.

“After 200 years, changes are being made in the administrative system under public interest. PERA will include assembly members, a DG, administrative secretary and four independent members. The deputy commissioners will head the district enforcement regulatory boards. Enforcement officers at the tehsil level will be responsible for the operations and monitoring,” officials said.
