Karachi experiences record-high overnight temperatures for July
Karachi has recorded its hottest night on record in July due to intense heat and high humidity, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported.
The minimum temperature in the city reached 32 degrees Celsius, marking the highest nighttime temperature ever recorded in July for Karachi.
Previously, the minimum temperature in July had peaked at 31 degrees Celsius in both 2021 and 2022.
Typically, the average temperature for July is 27.9 degrees Celsius, making last night’s temperature 4.1 degrees Celsius above normal.
The meteorological department explained that the incomplete restoration of sea breezes in Karachi has contributed to the sustained heat. High humidity levels have further exacerbated the heat, making it feel even more severe.
Today’s forecast for Karachi indicates that the weather will remain hot and humid with partly cloudy skies. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 37 degrees Celsius.
Winds from the west, northwest, and southwest are anticipated to blow at speeds of 15 to 25 kilometres per hour throughout the day. The Meteorological Department expects the sea breezes to fully restore within the next 24 hours, which should help alleviate the intense heat.
