The Lahore High Court (LHC) has fixed for hearing a petition seeking the disqualification of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi from his Senate seat.
Acting Chief Justice Shujaat Ali Khan will take up the petition on July 1(tomorrow).
The registrar's office earlier raised objections stating that the petitioner, Mashkoor Hussain, was not an affected party.
The petitioner, Mashkoor Hussain, had filed his plea through Advocate Nadeem Sarwar, with the federal government, Ministry of Interior, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and Mohsin Naqvi named as respondents.
It argued that Naqvi was ineligible to contest for the Senate as, at the time of his nomination, he was serving as the Chairman of PCB.
Following this, the petition cited Article 63 of the Constitution, which stipulates that an individual cannot simultaneously hold both positions.
The petition urged the LHC to issue an order for Naqvi's removal from the Senate seat.
