KARACHI:

The Excise Department of Sindh has auctioned off the premium number plate (A 1) for Rs100 million. Muzammil Kareem placed the highest bid of Rs100 million for the number plate. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon awarded the ownership certificate of the plate to Mazhar Kareem.

The premium number plate 786 fetched Rs26.5 million in auction, with Sarosh, a businessman, placing the highest bid. Provincial Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah awarded Sarosh the ownership certificate of the number plate.

The auction of premium number plates under the Excise Department of Sindh was held at a local hotel. Addressing the ceremony, Senior Minister of Excise, Taxation, and Information Sindh, Sharjeel Inam Memon said, “I am sincerely thankful to all the participants. The purpose of this ceremony is not elitist but a noble cause. A number plate was auctioned for $14 million in the United Arab Emirates, where this amount is also used for charity. Makhdoom Chalwa also wanted this. We have taken their case forward. People invest in gold and other things; premium number plates are also a form of investment. The plate that succeeds in auction can be resold.”

Sindh senior minister said, “As much money as is collected from the auction will be used to build the houses for flood victims.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said to the Chief Minister that we have to build houses for people. The government decided that not only the houses will be built but ownership rights will also be given to the women of the house. Sharjeel Inam Memon said, “According to Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s vision, solarization of houses of flood victims will also be done. These funds will not go waste, but they will help poor people.”
