HYDERABAD:

Without let or hindrance, a third cop in the bandit-infested Larkana division has been killed in as many assaults on a police check-post this month.

The fresh attack, which also left a policeman injured with gunshot, was carried out at Mubarak Lakhan check-post of Aandal Sundrani police station in Mirpur Mathelo taluka in Ghotki district on Friday.

The dacoits also kidnapped a cop and took away all the weapons. According to the police, constable Sahib Dino Abbassi was martyred in the assault while Syed Ismail Shah sustained wounds and Abdul Fateh Sangi was abducted.

DIG Sukkur Pir Muhammad Shah said while talking to the media after Namaz-e-Janaza outside SSP Ghotki’s office that such attacks can never dent morale of the police. He added that the police are proud of Abbassi who bravely fought against dozens of attackers before embracing martyrdom.

Meanwhile, soon after the attack SSP Sumer Noor Channa led a chase of the bandit in the riverbed area. There were also reports of exchange of fire between the police and the outlaws. However, the kidnapped cop cannot be recovered till Friday night.

The injured cop Shah told the media in the hospital that the check post suddenly came under the attack by heavily armed bandits. Earlier, two cops were martyred in Kashmore-Kandhkot district of Larkana division and four policemen were injured in two separate attacks on the check posts on June 4 and 20.

Abdul Aziz Brahmani was martyred on June 4 and Ghulam Mutafa Rajpar on June 20. A policeman, Ali Raza Laghari, was also kidnapped by the dacoits. Although the Sindh police has time and again claimed of bringing a decline in the crimes, kidnappings and robberies carried out by the bandits, the recurrent storming of the police check posts tells a different story.
