Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Omar Ayub resigned from the party offices, including the chairmanship of the Central Finance Board, because of the workload as the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, he said on Thursday.
Ayub sent his resignation to PTI founder Imran Khan and the current party chairman Gohar Ali Khan on June 22. Opposition leader in Senate Shibli Faraz conveyed his message to the PTI founder during a meeting in Adiala Jail on Thursday and his resignation was accepted, he added.
“Given the parliamentary workload in addition to the commitments of the constituency, I represent in the National Assembly, I feel that another person should be the Secretary General to organise the party structure,” Ayub wrote in the letter to Imran.
He said that both the positions of the party secretary general as well as the National Assembly opposition leader demanded complete attention and “in my humble opinion, I feel that I cannot do justice” to the office of the secretary general.
“I am therefore resigning as Secretary General PTI and Chairman Central Finance Board PTI but will work for PTI as a worker,” he stated. He thanked the PTI founder for accepting his resignation and also thanked the PTI members, parliamentarians and office holders, who worked tirelessly for the party.
Ayub had been holding the office of the PTI secretary general since May 2023. Following his resignation, he said, changes would be made in the organisational structure of the party in the coming days as per the instructions of PTI founder.
