MULTAN:

Skill proficiency certificates with job letters were distributed among 13 addicts in Multan on Wednesday to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse.

Handing out the certificates in a ceremony, Multan Commissioner Marryam Khan said the patients who had been admitted to a drug rehabilitation centre had passed the exams after completing their treatment and technical training courses.

She said the rehabilitated addicts were ready to return to healthy life. Of them, seven had passed the test of electrician and six of tailor.

Sewing machines were also distributed among those who had passed the tailoring test along with job letters.

The commissioner said that the curse of drugs has destroyed thousands of homes and ruined the future of many young people.

She said the divisional administration was on the frontline of preventing drug abuse and rehabilitating the affected people.

By increasing the number of courses, more addicts will be made healthy and skilled, she said, adding that several organisations had cooperated to provide the trained people dignified employment opportunities.

The Social Welfare Rehabilitation Centre’s team had also played a crucial role in this rgard, the commissioner added.
