Billy Ray Cyrus is firing back against his estranged wife Firerose's claims of abuse with allegations of his own.

In recent court documents obtained by PEOPLE, the country music star claims he was the victim of physical, verbal, and emotional abuse at the hands of Firerose.

Cyrus' manager, Scott Adkins, has provided an affidavit corroborating the singer's claims. This counters Firerose's previous accusations of emotional abuse against Cyrus, which included a note she left him apologizing and asking for another chance.

Cyrus also denies Firerose's claims that he threatened to end her career if she revealed his attempt to divorce her due to her need for a double mastectomy. He further asserts that he was unaware of Firerose's BRCA1 gene mutation and the increased risk of breast cancer until after their marriage.

Firerose's representatives deny Cyrus' allegations, stating that the only people supporting his "false claims" are on his payroll. They also criticize Cyrus for questioning Firerose's decision to undergo preventative surgery, citing it as an example of the "cruel manipulation" she endured.

This latest development adds another layer to the already contentious divorce between Cyrus and Firerose. The couple, who were married for less than seven months, have been embroiled in a series of accusations and counter-accusations since Cyrus filed for divorce in May, just one day before Firerose's scheduled double mastectomy.
