Sindh Interior Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, while expressing deep sorrow and regret over the recent sudden deaths of citizens in Karachi amid extreme heat, has said the government might file murder charges against K-Electric, the city’s power distribution company.
The statement came as discovery of bodies continued for a third consecutive day in Karachi amidst an extreme hot weather, with 11 bodies, including that of a woman, found in various parts of the city on Tuesday. Only three of the deceased have been identified so far.
Over the past three days, the total number of bodies found in Karachi has reached 36. Volunteers from Chhipa and Edhi organisations transported the bodies to government hospitals and then to mortuaries. On Sunday, 10 bodies were found, followed by 15 on Monday, and 11 on Tuesday.

According to a spokesperson on Tuesday, the minister has taken notice of the incidents and stated, "Investigations are underway to determine the exact causes of these deaths."
He added, "If the inquiry reveals that power outages are the main cause, K-Electric will be held responsible. Legal action, including murder charges, will be taken against K-Electric's administrators and officials."
Hospitals in Karachi, including Jinnah and Civil, continue to receive dozens of patients affected by the extreme heat, many of whom were treated and discharged after initial medical aid.
